Take a walk

Take a walk

Walking is a good source of exercise, pleasure, and independence that needs to be supported for as long as possible. It is free, it does not require specialised equipment, and distance and duration can be adjusted to suit everyone. Many people living with dementia are capable of walking until (or even in) late stages of their illness. Maintaining physical function can reduce other health issues. Always remember to plan for resting during or after walking. Stay hydrated by drinking a glass of water before you leave or right after you return, or bring a bottle along with you.
