Setting the table can be a both physically and mentally challenging task, when a person has dementia. However, tasks with the right amount of challenge is beneficial to keep mental and physical function. Ask the person to help you, and clearly state what you expect from them. “Can you help me set the table?” might be too complex, whereas “can you help me by bringing these plates to the table” can be understandable. Remember to positively acknowledge accomplishments.
